CHESTER, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's basketball team dropped its final game of the Widener Tip-off Tournament to the host school, 81-71, on Saturday afternoon.
DJ Gardner led the Knights with 18 points, while shooting 4-of-5 from long range.
Jared Chambliss and
Jalen Watkins also recorded double-digit points with 11 and 10, respectfully.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride jumped out to a commanding lead with a 10-0 run to open the game, before
Samuel Majekodunmi silenced the run with the Knights first bucket of the game. Widener would expand its lead to 13 points around the midway point of the half, but the Knights answered with consecutive three-pointers from
Gabe Kier and Gardner to cut their deficit back to single digits. Later in the half the Knights would pull within four points following a three-pointer from Chambliss with 29-seconds remaining. Widener would answer with a bucket before the half to pull ahead by six points, 44-38.
- Widener opened the second half much like they started the first half with a 9-0 run. The Pride soon expanded their lead to a game-high 16 points with 15:48 remaining in regulation. Arcada would eventually battle back and cut its deficit back to single digits after Gardner drilled a three-ball with 5:34 left. The Knights would come within six points of the Pride after a
Justin Money fast break layup, but couldn't overcome a slow start to both halves.
