Women’s Basketball Enters 2021-22 Season with Renewed Focus

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball program tips off its 2021-22 season on Tuesday night as the Knights travel to non-conference foe Neumann in a 7 p.m. start. The Knights have high expectations for themselves after being picked to finish fourth in the MAC Freedom preseason coaches' poll, which was released last month.

"I'm super happy with where we're at in terms of our leadership and overall team culture and buy-in," Rose Katz-Gobeli remarked, who enters her eighth season as head coach of the Knights in 2021-22. "Playing the first part of our non-conference schedule will really help us grow and see the target areas where we need to keep making strides."

The Knights return First-team All-MAC Freedom selection Julia Makowski to the floor for her senior season and will be a pivotal piece to Arcadia's success throughout the year. Arcadia also returns several key contributors from last year's roster that played in all 11 games, including Holly Daveski, Sidney Barrer, Scarlett Glasser-Nehls, and Maria Tully.

"The senior class of Halle Robinson, Holly Daveski, Julia Makowski, and Sidney Barrer have really shown the underclassmen the right way to conduct themselves in the preseason and raising the bar in terms of the leadership of the program," Katz-Gobeli continued. "I can't think of a better four people to lead this team this year."

Tuesday's game against Neumann begins a 25-game slate for the Knights, with 13 contests scheduled to be played inside Alumni Gymnasium. The season concludes with the MAC Freedom Tournament, which takes place from Feb. 21-26.

"It means a lot to the girls to have their families, friends, and fellow student-athletes back in the stands," Katz-Gobeli said. "It definitely gives us a much-needed boost and we're looking forward to a great turnout for our first game at Alumni Gymnasium."

Following Tuesday night's season-opener, the Knights travel  to Swarthmore Friday before hosting Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday, Nov. 16 for the home-opener and annual Battle of 309 at 6 p.m.
