GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team will take the court for the first time since February 22 of last year with a promising young core led by a group of experienced veterans
The women's basketball program is slated to open its 2021 slate at Delaware Valley on Feb. 11. The Knights are also scheduled to battle Misericordia, DeSales, Lycoming, and Widener during the five-week regular season. "I can't believe after a year of waiting we are getting the opportunity to play our first game," said head coach Rose Katz-Gobeli. "I am just excited for our team to get out there and compete, playing the sport they love. Most importantly, I am very proud of their commitment, discipline, and dedication to our program through this time to protect our bubble. I would also like to thank everyone involved in the Arcadia University community who has made our return to the court this week possible."
After finishing with a 12-13 overall record last season, the Knights return several starters from last season's squad.
Julia Makowski headlines the team's top returners after averaging 11.6 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds a season ago. Makowski reached double-figure scoring in 16 games and recorded two double-doubles.
Holly Daveski,
Sidney Barrer, and
Taylor Fritz return after starting the majority of games last season. Daveski ranked third on the team in scoring with 7.2 points per game, while Fritz followed with 6.5 points. Barrer also played a significant role for the Knights with her gritty style of play, while averaging 4.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Anna Tassari,
Anna Intartaglia,
Olivia Wyckoff and
Abbey Finkill look to factor into the Knights rotation. Wyckoff led the bunch in scoring last season and grabbed 3.3 rebounds in limited minutes. The program added three newcomers with the first-year additions of
Maria Tully,
Scarlett Glasser-Nehls and
Jaclyn Skalski.
"The improvement over the course of the phases has been great and we are pumped to play somebody else besides each other," said Katz-Gobeli. "I would like to specifically acknowledge our seniors
Anna Tassari and
Taylor Fritz. Their leadership has been outstanding."
