Women's Basketball Completes Sweep of Misericordia Behind Makowski's Double-Double

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team kept its unbeaten streak to open the 2021 season intact Saturday night, as Julia Makowski led the way with her second double-double in as many weeks with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the Knights' 64-47 victory over visiting Misericordia. Holly Daveski also finished the night in double figures with 16 points while Taylor Fritz and Sidney Barrer each recorded double figures in rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Knights got off to a slow start offensively but remained within reach of the Cougars with a stout defensive game plan in the early going. Arcadia had four different scorers in the opening quarter but trailed after the first ten minutes, 13-10.

-Arcadia got things going on offense in a big way to open the second quarter, ripping off a 14-2 run lasting seven-plus minutes to take a nine-point lead. Anna Tassari hit a pair of jumpers from beyond the arc while Olivia Wyckoff and Scarlett Glasser-Nehls pitched in with field goals of their own. The two sides traded points in the final minutes of the half but the Knights took a nine-point lead into the break, 29-20.

-The Cougars came out of the break and shrunk the deficit to five in the early stages of the third, but an 8-2 run powered by a Maria Tully jumper and Makowski three vaulted the Knights to their largest lead of the game at the time at 11, the same advantage they would take into the fourth and final quarter.

-The Knights held the Cougars to just 36.8 percent shooting (7-19) from the floor in the final quarter while putting together a 10-2 run over the final 4:19 of regulation as Daveski netted six of her 16 points in the final quarter to lead Arcadia to the 17-point victory.
