Baseball Hosts Wilkes Saturday to Begin Best-of-Three MAC Freedom Quarterfinals

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University baseball program begins postseason play Saturday as the fourth-seed in the best-of-three MAC Freedom Quarterfinals, hosting fifth-seeded Wilkes at Skip Wilson Field. After finishing the season on a five-game win streak, the Knights aim to carry that momentum towards claiming the program's third conference championship in the last five years.

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
-Arcadia enters the first weekend of the conference tournament leading the league in team ERA (3.74) while ranking second in team batting average (.317) and on-base percentage (.414). The Knights set a program record with a conference-leading 102 stolen bases, led by Alex Madera's 23 and Emilio Pallante's 20 - the duo combined to be thrown out only five times on the season.

-Senior first baseman Trevor Mattson paced the conference this season with a .455 (35-for-77) batting average, .857 slugging percentage, and .558 on-base percentage, while hitting 11 doubles, a triple, six home runs and driving in 25 runs. After going hitless in the first two games of the season, Mattson hit safely in 20 of his next 22 games to end the regular season while posting 11 multi-hit games.

-Madera ranked fifth in the conference in hitting with a .396 average (36-for-91) after finishing the season on a 10-for-14 tear (.717) to earn MAC Freedom Player of the Week honors. The second baseman finished second in the league with 23 stolen bases and third in runs scored with 31.

-Luke Fournier's 2.29 ERA stood as the MAC Freedom's top mark at season's end while ranking second with five wins in seven starts. Fournier and Hunter Curley tied for second in batting average against (.221), contributing to a .247 team mark for the pitching staff on the year. Owen Magolis was lights out in relief this season, logging 10.2 scoreless innings over seven appearances while posting four saves - good for third in the conference. The righty struck out ten while allowing only two hits on the year.

ABOUT WILKES
-The Colonels enter postseason play having won 13 of their last 16 games to claim the fifth-seed in the tournament.  Wilkes played to an 8-6 record on the road during the 2021 season.

-Nick Pronti leads the Colonels with 33 RBI and four home runs while Dominick Bayo has a team-leading 39 hits to go along with a .379 batting average. 

-Tony Molitoris led all Colonels starters with a 2.98 ERA in 45.1 innings pitched, culminating in a 5-1 record.  Andrew Indzonka led Wilkes with three saves and paced the pitching staff with a 2.45 ERA.
