GLENSIDE, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Arcadia University men's volleyball team dropped a tightly-contested battle versus fifth-seeded Alvernia University, 3-2, in the MAC Championship Tournament Play-In Round on Monday night.
Owen Heft paced the Knights offense with a career-high 18 kills, while
Quinn Baily and
Collin Nissley added 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Baily also led the defense with 16 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights started off hot with a 10-4 advantage after Baily opened the rally with consecutive aces to start the first set. Nissley helped wrap up the opening set with back-to-back kills, before a
Dylan Zimmerman ace and Alvernia attack error sealed a first set win for Acadia, 25-16.
- Alvernia evened things up with an important second set victory, 25-22. After an early Golden Wolves run, the Knights pieced together three-straight points to tie the game at 10-10. Arcadia would pull ahead later in the set with six-straight points, which was highlighted by two Baily kills and a pair of
Anthony Devantier aces. However, Alvernia would close out the set with a 7-2 rally to take the second set.
- Arcadia jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in a pivotal third set, but Alvernia narrowed the gap with five-unanswered points, 7-6. Later in the set, the Knights put together another 7-1 rally to take a late seven-point lead, 22-15. Heft closed out the stanza with his eighth kill of the set to give the Knights a 25-19 victory.
- Alvernia forced a fifth set with a 25-18 victory in the fourth stanza. The Golden Wolves maintained a lead for the majority of the set, but were able to distance themselves with a 6-2 run at the midway point.
- After the Knights opened the final set with consecutive points, Alvernia captured momentum with a 5-1 run. The Golden Wolves maintained the lead throughout the set on the road to a 15-10 victory.
