HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team fell to Juniata, 3-0, in its first match of a doubleheader at the Asics Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Outside Hitter Michelle Frank led the Knights in kills for the second consecutive match with eight. Sophomore Middle Hitter Haylee Harper added six kills for Arcadia in the defeat.

JUNIATA 3, ARCADIA 0
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Juniata won the first set, 25-11. The Eagles won the first four points of the set, and continued that momentum. Juniata would use two, 3-0 runs and a 4-0 run to take a one set to none lead in the match.

  • The Eagles took the second set, 25-13. Juniata got out to a quick 8-2 lead, forcing an Arcadia timeout. With the Knights trailing 16-9, the Eagles used a 5-0 run to extend their lead. The two teams then split the following points as Juniata took a two sets to none lead.

  • Juniata closed out the match, winning the third set, 25-13. The Eagles held an early 6-5 advantage, and then went on a 6-0 run to give them a 12-5 lead. The teams then went back and forth, splitting points between them, before Juniata won seven of the last nine points to take the set.

The Knights concluded the Asics Invitation against Randolph-Macon. Arcadia dropped the second match of its doubleheader, 3-1, to the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.

Michelle Frank once again led the Knights attack as the Junior Outside Hitter tallied 15 kills. Estefania Martinez-Sola recorded a double-double with 27 assists and 17 digs.

Frank was named to the Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team for her performances across the three matches for the Knights.

RANDOLPH-MACON 3, ARCADIA 1
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Yellow Jackets won the first set 25-22. Arcadia won the first five points of the match, but Randolph-Macon took eight of the next 11 points to tie the set at eight. The rest of the set was defined by runs as each team went on multiple runs. However, the Yellow Jackets finished the set on a 3-0 run to take the early advantage in the match.

  • Arcadia would tie the match at a set apiece, as the Knights won the second set, 25-20. Arcadia jumped out to an early 8-1 lead, and that really propelled them in the set as it would never trail en route to tying up the match. The Knights called a timeout up 23-18 in the set, and would win the final two points needed to tie the match.

  • Randolph-Macon answered back as it won the third set, 25-19. The Knights took an 11-8 lead, but the Yellow Jackets won the next three points, leading to an Arcadia timeout. The teams would go back and forth with 3-0 runs, leading to a deadlock at 19. Randolph-Macon won the final six points to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

  • The Yellow Jackets closed out the match in the fourth set, taking it 25-14. Randolph-Macon used an early 7-0 run to take an early advantage. The Knights fought hard to try and come back in the set, but the Yellow Jackets used two, 4-0 runs to fend off the Arcadia push and win the match, 3-1.
