GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team dropped a five-set thriller to Stevens, 3-2, on Thursday night inside Alumni Gymnasium.
Despite the loss, the Knights clinched the second seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) tournament and are set to host third-seeded Misericordia in the MAC Freedom semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Five different Knights recorded double-digit dig totals in the match, led by Estefania Martinez-Sola with and Michelle Frank, who both had 16. Both also recorded a double-double as Martinez-Sola had 14 kills and Frank had 11. Kelsi Warner also had a double-double with 20 assists and 12 digs.
STEVENS 3, ARCADIA 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Arcadia 25, Stevens 23: The Knights got off to a hot start, getting out to an early 6-1 lead. Stevens took the lead with a 6-0 run, giving it a 12-10 advantage. The teams would then exchange 2 two-point runs until the set was tied at 19. The Ducks then took a 23-19 lead through a 4-0 run. Arcadia answered though, ending the set on a 6-0 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Set 2: Stevens 25, Arcadia 16: A back and forth start ended with an Arcadia 3-0 run, as it took an 11-8 lead. Stevens then went on a 10-1 run to take hold of the set. The Ducks closed out the set to tie the match at one.
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Stevens 19: An early 5-0 run from the Knights gave them a 9-5 lead. Arcadia extended its lead through a 6-1 run, taking a 17-11 lead. The Knights continued its momentum through the rest of the set to retake the lead in the match.
Set 4: Stevens 25, Arcadia 18: The Ducks got out to an early 9-1 run, and extended its lead to 24-12 through the rest of the set. The Knights fought off six match points, but Stevens ended the run to force a fifth set.
Set 5: Stevens 15, Arcadia 11: Arcadia led 8-5 as the teams switched sides. Stevens then took nine straight points to earn a match point. The Knights took three straight as they faced match point, but Stevens closed out the set and the match.
