Lights-Out Shooting the Difference as Men's Basketball Falls in MAC Freedom Tournament
GLENSIDE – 73 percent (19-of-26) shooting from three-point range was the difference as the Arcadia University men's basketball team, the No. 3 seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) tournament, was defeated by No. 6 Misericordia University by a 98-70 final in the quarterfinal from Alumni Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.
The Knights conclude the season at 12-14 overall.
Arcadia started the game on a 4-0 run on layups from
Jalen Watkins and
Justin Money forcing Misericordia to call its first timeout just over 90 seconds into the game.
After the Cougars closed the gap to 4-3, the Knights went on am 11-2 run making the score 15-5 and forcing Misericordia into a full timeout with 15:33 left on the clock.
Arcadia held a double-digit lead as late as 13:17 following a
Samuel Majekodunmi jumper made the score 22-11, but from that point on the Cougars ended the half with a 40-11 run, entering the break with the Knights trailing 51-33.
Misericordia started the second half on a 26-9 streak making the score 77-42 with 11:19 left in the game. Arcadia was unable to make up the difference as the waning minutes chipped away reaching the final horn.
Gabe Kier led the Knights with 15 points to go with four rebounds and three steals. Money finished with 14 points and five rebounds, Watkins had 12 points and five rebounds while
Nas Johnson added 12 points, three rebounds, and four assists.
Elijah Rosenthal led the Cougars with 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc to go with four rebounds. Kevin Lazdowsky added 25 points, eight rebounds, and four assists while Nick Hornung rounded out the double-digit scorers with 23 points and seven rebounds.
