Baseball Concludes Virginia Trip with Big Win over Stevenson
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Arcadia University baseball team concluded its trip to Virginia with a 10-0 win over former conference-foe Stevenson University at the University of Mary Washington on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights improved to 5-1 with their fifth-straight victory.
Arcadia opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Joseph Kumar hit a one-out double to left, stole third, and scored on an error.
The Knights doubled their lead in the top of the third after
Alex Madera hit a double to left and scored on
Justin Massielo's double to left to make the score 2-0.
Aaron Oswalt walked to start the top of the fourth, stole second, and scored on
Matthew Sot's double to left.
Arcadia broke the game open in the top of the fifth with three runs on only one hit. Massielo started the rally with a one-out single to left and moved to second when
Hunter Curley was hit by a pitch. After a double-steal put runners at second and third,
Connor Cheeseman reached on an error that brought home Massielo. Cheeseman then stole second, and after a flyout, Sot walked to load the bases.
Griffin Murphy walked, bringing in Curley, and
Matt Donchez reached on an error that scored Cheeseman, making the score 6-0.
In the top of the sixth, Kumar led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch.
The Knights concluded the scoring with three runs in the top of the eighth. Medera led off with an infield single and reached second when Kumar was hit by a pitch. Massielo followed with an RBI single to left scoring Madera and moving Kumar to third with Massielo advancing to second on the play.
Emilio Pallante brought both runners in with a single to center, reaching the 10-0 final score.
Arcadia's pitching was dominant for the second day in a row, as
Hunter Sibley struck out seven Mustang's across six innings, allowing six hits with zero walks to earn the win.
Tyler Costaro pitched a scoreless inning and
Nick Fossile finished the final two innings with three strikeouts.
Massielo was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI's while Madera went 3-for-6 with two runs scored.
The Knights return to the diamond on Saturday when they host Penn State-Harrisburg for an 11:00 a.m. non-conference doubleheader.
