Women's Lacrosse Defeated by Marymount
GLENSIDE – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team was defeated in its home opener by Marymount University, 19-10, from Jean Lenox West Field on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Knights are now 1-3 on the season.
Marymount got on the board first before
Olivia Poley tied the score with an unassisted goal and
Ashley Starkey notched an unassisted tally to give Arcadia a 2-1 lead with just over five minutes elapsed.
The Saints scored the next three goals with
Skylar Acker finishing the first quarter scoring with the Knights trailing 4-3 after 15 minutes.
Marymount opened the second quarter with three straight goals to take a 7-3 advantage before Starkey ended the run with a goal at 7:28. The Saints rolled off two more goals with Starkey ending the run after Marymount was assessed a yellow card to make the score 9-5 with 1:19 remaining until halftime. The Saints scored twice more but
Maddie Ruger scored with no time left on the clock with the Knights trailing 11-6 heading into halftime.
Marymount began the second half with four straight goals to take a 15-6 lead before Starkey and Acker scored back-to-back making the score 15-8 with 8:18 on the third quarter clock.
The Saints pushed the lead to 16-8 with Acker breaking through again to make the score 16-9 with 6:09 remaining before Marymount finished the scoring in the third with Arcadia trailing 17-9. The Saints tallied the next two scores with Acker ending the scoring at 29 seconds left in the fourth to reach the final.
Acker and Starkey led the way for the Knights with four goals apiece.
Emily Griffith stopped 13 shots in net for Arcadia.
The Knights return to action on Saturday when they host Ursinus College for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
