WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Arcadia University baseball team swept its doubleheader at King's on Monday afternoon, defeating the Monarchs 13-0 in the first game, and winning the second game, 8-3.
The Knights swept the three-game series with King's and improved to 14-3 overall, and 3-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play.
Nick Fossile got the start for Arcadia in the first game and pitched four scoreless innings, earning his second victory of the season. The junior left hander only gave up three hits and struck out three. Tyler Costaro pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Nick Draben pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Joseph Kumar had three hits in game one and scored three runs. Ryan Smolen went 2-for-2 with one RBI and Connor Cheeseman went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Zachary Sekelick and Aaron Oswalt both had two RBI's apiece.

Arcadia got on the board in the first inning as Hunter Curley walked and eventually came home to score on a throwing error.

The Knights added to their lead in the second inning as Nick Opalkowski brought Kumar home with an RBI single to give Arcadia a 2-0 lead.

Arcadia scored four runs in the third inning. Alex Madera led off the inning with a walk, and eventually scored on a Justin Massielo RBI single. Massielo came home to score on a passed ball. Cheeseman singled in the inning and came home to score on a throwing error by the King's pitcher. Sekelick singled to right field, bringing home Kumar to give the Knights a 6-0 lead.

Madera scored his second run of the game in the fourth inning to give Arcadia a 7-0 lead.

The Knights scored four more runs in the fifth inning, which began with a Matthew Sot single up the middle, scoring Cheeseman. The next batter, Sekelick brought home Kumar on a fielder's choice. Ryan Smolen came in to pinch hit and brought home Opalkowski on an RBI double. Madera was the next batter brought home Smolen with an RBI single.

Oswalt came in to pinch hit in the seventh and had a two RBI single, bringing home Smolen and Nick Bon Tempo to extend the Knights lead to 13-0.
In game two, Zach Steiger picked up his first victory of the season as he pitched three innings, giving up two runs and striking out five. Nadell Booker and Owen Margolis both had scoreless outings for the Knights as they combined for three innings pitched.
Curley and Emilio Pallante both had three RBI's for the Knights. Curley went 2-for-2 and had a walk and Pallante went 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Massielo and Sekelick both tallied one RBI for the Knights in the 8-3 victory.

Massielo gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the first inning as he brought Madera home on a fielder's choice.

The Monarchs answered with two runs in the bottom half of the first as they took a 2-1 lead.

Arcadia tied the game at two in the second inning as Pallante brought home Sot on a bunt single.

Curley hit his second home run of the season in the third inning to give Arcadia a 3-2 lead.

Pallante brought home Griffin Murphy in the fourth inning with a double, and Curley brought home Pallante also with a double to extend the Knights lead to 5-2.

King's cut its deficit to 5-3 with a run in the fourth.

Pallante had his second RBI double of the game in the sixth inning as he brought home Sot. Curley had a sacrifice fly to score Pallante to give Arcadia a 7-3 lead.

Sekelick walked with the bases loaded to bring home Cheeseman to seal the 8-3 win for Arcadia.
