No. 8/24 Baseball Sweeps Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – The No. 8/24 Arcadia University baseball team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both ends of its Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) doubleheader at Misericordia University by 11-3 and 4-0 finals, respectively.

The Knights improved to 8-0 in league play and 20-3 overall with the wins.

Arcadia scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning after Alex Madera led off with a walk, and then advanced to second when Hunter Curley was hit by a pitch. After Justin Massielo sacrificed both runners up a base, Connor Cheeseman brought both runners home with a single down the right field line, making the score 2-0.

Curley led off the third inning with a single and moved to second on a hit from Massielo. Cheeseman brought both runner home with a three-run homerun, bringing the Knights to a 5-0 lead.

Misericordia scored three runs in the bottom of the third, cutting Arcadia's lead to 5-3.

Curley started off the fifth inning with a single, followed by Massielo grounding out to shortstop advancing the runner to second. Cheeseman then hit a single to left field advancing the runner to third and Ryan Smolen sacrificed both runners bringing Curley home to score and advanced Cheeseman to second. Joseph Kumar singled down the left field line bringing in another run for the Knights making the score 7-3.

Matthew Sot led off the sixth inning with a triple down the right field line, followed by Griffin Murphy who singled to bring the runner home. Madera singled moved Murphy to second with a base hit followed by Curley reaching first on a fielder's choice that moved Murphy to third. Massielo loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch, and after a pitching change, Cheeseman brought home Murphy and Curley with a base hit to left extending the lead to 10-3.

Emilo Pallante finished the scoring in the top of the seventh when he led off with a hit-by-pitch, moved to second on a passed ball, stole third, and scored on the resulting throwing error by the catcher.

Hunter Curley earned the win for Arcadia in game one, allowing three runs in a complete-game effort with three strikeouts and two walks while scattering seven hits.

Cheeseman led the offense in game one, going 4-for-4 seven RBI's and two runs scored while Murphy went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

The Knights opened game two with a walk for Madera. Madera then stole second base and advanced to third on a single hit by Massielo. After Massielo stole second, Cheeseman singled scoring Madera with the game's first run.

Donchez hit his second homerun of the season in the second inning bringing Arcadia a 2-0 led.

Donchez led off the sixth inning with a single to right field, moved two bases on a sacrifice bunt by Pallante, and scored when Sot singled to left-center.

Hunter Sibley put forth a dominating effort in the night cap, allowing just three hits and zero walks while striking out nine in the complete-game shutout effort to earn the victory.

Donchez led the offense in game two going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI while Murphy was 2-for-3.

The Knights return to action on Sunday when they will host Misericordia for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game at Skip Wilson Field.
