Softball Earns No. 2 Seed with Split at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Arcadia University softball team split its doubleheader with Stevens on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game, 8-4, but falling in the second, 3-1. 

The Knights are now 29-8 overall and 13-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. With the win in game one, Arcadia secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom Tournament.  

In game one, four Knights had a multi-hit game, headlined by Allison LaRochelle's 3-for-3 performance. Madi Costigan, Megan Sooy and Grace Caldwell all had two hits in the win.  

Sooy hit her ninth and 10th home runs of the year in the game one victory. She also had four RBI's, which brings her season total to 39. 

Juliana Presto got the start in the circle for Arcadia and got her 20th victory of the season. She pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks. She struck out two in the win.  

In game two, Serena Goodridge went 3-for-3 and Nathalia Diianni went 2-for-2 and drove in the lone run for the Knights.  

Brenna Dolan got the start in the second game and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk. She struck out three. Presto entered the game in relief and pitched the final 1.2 innings, only giving up one hit and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Knights plated seven runs in the first inning. Costigan and Diianni both reached on errors, and then Sooy brought them home with a three-run home run. LaRochelle and Caldwell had RBI singles later in the inning and then Costigan closed out the scoring with a two RBI double to give the Knights a 7-0 lead.  

  • Stevens got on the board in the third inning with two runs to cut its deficit to 7-2.  

  • Sooy hit her second home run of the game, a solo shot to give the Knights an 8-2 lead.  

  • The Ducks added runs in the sixth and seventh, but Arcadia closed out the 8-4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 

  • Stevens had a two RBI single in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.  

  • Diianni scored Caldwell with a single in the fifth inning to cut Arcadia's deficit to 2-1.  

  • The Ducks answered the Knights run with one of their own in the fifth inning to seal the final score line, 3-1.  

UP NEXT 

The second-seeded Knights take on No. 3 King's in the first round of the MAC Freedom Tournament on Thursday, May 5. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at King's.
