Women's Lacrosse Uses Strong Second Half Performance to Down Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team won its fourth straight game as the Knights defeated Wilkes, 16-7, on Wednesday afternoon.  

Arcadia improved its record to 6-6, including 3-0 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play. This is the Knights' best start in conference play since the 2014 season when they went 6-0 in league play. 

Ashley Starkey scored a career-high six goals in the win. She has now scored 34 on the season. Hannah McAllister also set a new career high in goals as she found the back of the net four times.  

Emily Griffith got the start in between the pipes for the Knights and made 11 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 

  • The Knights scored the first three goals of the game as Starkey, Olivia Poley and Maddie Ruger found the back of the net. Wilkes then scored the next two, before Ruger scored her second of the game to extend Arcadia's lead to 4-2. Wilkes tied the game at four with two consecutive scores, but McAllister scored her first of the day to give the Knights a 5-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.  

  • Wilkes tied the game at five, Starkey scored the next two goals to give the lead back to Arcadia, 7-5. The Colonels scored the final goal of the first half, but Arcadia held a 7-6 lead after 30 minutes of play.  

  • Arcadia outscored Wilkes, 5-0 in the third quarter as Morganne Dee scored twice, Starkey scored twice and Tessa O'Donnell found the back of the net to extend the Knights lead to 12-6.  

  • The strong second half performance continued in the second half for the Knights as they Hannah McAllister scored three times and Starkey added another to give the Knights a 16-6 lead. Wilkes added one more before the buzzer.
