Four-Run Third Downs Baseball at Stevens

Hoboken, NJ - A four-run third inning proved to be the difference as the No. 5/17 Arcadia University baseball team fell by a 5-4 final at Stevens Institute of Technology in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) game on Friday afternoon.

The Knights end their winning streak at 12 games, bringing their record to 9-1 in league play and 22-4 overall.

Arcadia was first to put a run on the board in the top of the first inning with Alex Madera leading off reaching first base on a fielding error by Stevens first baseman. Next up to the plate was Hunter Curley who reached first on a fielder's choice that erased Madera at second, followed by Justin Massielo's hit by a pitch advancing the runner to second. Both runners advanced on a double-steal with Matt Donchez bringing home Curley on a run-scoring groundout.

Stevens took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning making the score 4-1.

Arcadia tried to fight back in the top of the fourth inning when Donchez led off with a hit by pitch and was followed by a Connor Cheeseman double to left field bringing the runner home making the score 4-2.

Massielo led off for the Knights in the top of the sixth inning with a double down the third base line, followed by Donchez with a single to left field advancing the runner to third. Trey Obarowski pinch hit for Joseph Kumar with a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Massielo to come home, cutting Stevens' lead down 4-3.

The Ducks extended their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning making the score 5-3.

Arcadia started the top of the eighth when Massielo walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch, followed by Donchez with a walk. Cheeseman moved Massielo to third with a flyout, and Massielo then scored when Donchez was caught stealing second on the back end of a double-steal attempt.

The Knights got the tying run to third with one out in the top of the ninth, but were unable to bring the run home as Arcadia fell one run short.
