Women's Basketball Poised to Take Next Step in 2023-24

GLENSIDE - One season after winning its first-ever postseason game as a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), the Arcadia University women's basketball team will look to take another step forward in the MAC Freedom under the tutelage of second-year head coach Jackie Hartzell in 2023-24.

"Our expectations are to work hard and get better everyday," Hartzell explained. "The goal is always to be playing our best by the end of the season, make the playoffs again, and see what happens from there."

In the backcourt, senior Scarlett Glasser-Nehls will lead the way a season after averaged 9.3 points with 3.8 rebounds, 59 assists, and 38 steals. Glasser-Nehls set a career-high in the Knights MAC Freedom Play-In game at Delaware Valley with 25 points to go with five rebounds and four assists. Hanna Rhoades, who led the team with 11.4 ppg, will also be joined by Maria Tully, Abby Beam, Ally Zolty, Maya Lewis, Riley O'Hagan, and Jackie Skalski.

Up front, Delaney Bell returns after earning Second Team All-MAC Freedom and Honorable Mention All-Area from City of Basketball Love during her first season, averaging 8.1 points and 8.8 rebounds-per-game. Bell matched Glasser-Nehls in Arcadia's game against King's on February 4th with 25 points and 10 points, one of seven double-doubles during her first-year season. Combining with Bell will be Kylie Meredith, Mara Weaver, Sophia Rasiul, Emily Schall, Quinlyn Fisher, and Morgan Bigler. Transfer Katie Rodriguez will look to make an impact in the middle as a graduate transfer for the Knights.

"We return the majority of our roster, the five starters for most of the games last year, so we are definitely looking to them for their experience, and we have other players who played some key minutes last year, and most of our team worked really hard in the offseason so we are really excited to see what we can do with that year of experience under our belts," Hartzell finished.

Arcadia, who was picked to finish third in the MAC Freedom Preseason Coaches Poll, kick off the 2023-24 on Saturday it will travel to Rutgers-Camden for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game. The Knights will open their home schedule on Wednesday when the host Gwynedd Mercy for a 6:00 p.m. game in the Battle of 309, and MAC Freedom play begins January 3rd at DeSales.
