GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 3 Arcadia University men's volleyball team fell in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Semifinals to second-seeded Messiah in four sets on Thursday night.
With the loss the Knights season comes to end with a 17-11 record. Their 17 wins is five more than they had a season ago.
Dylan Zimmerman led the Knights attack with 10 kills.
Danny Gonzalez and
Owen Heft had nine kills each.
NO. 2 MESSIAH 3, NO. 3 ARCADIA 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1: Messiah 25, Arcadia 21:
A back and forth start saw Messiah take an early 7-5 lead through a 3-0 run. The Falcons extended that run to 6-1, pushing their lead to 10-6. The Knights got within three points on multiple occasions but could not get closer as Messiah took the opening set.
Set 2: Messiah 25, Arcadia 22:
The Knights won four consecutive points, giving them a 7-5 lead. Messiah then won six of the next nine to take an 11-10 lead. Arcadia battled back to tie the set at 19. Messiah took for of the next five points, taking a 23-20 lead. The Knights got within a point at 23-22, but the Falcons won the next two points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3: Arcadia 25, Messiah 19:
The teams played to a 10-10 tie, but the Knights took four of the next five points to take a 14-11 lead. Arcadia maintained its lead through the rest of the set as it forced a fourth set.
Set 4: Messiah 25, Arcadia 21:
Messiah jumped out to a 6-2 lead and pushed its advantage to 10-4. Arcadia fought back, cutting the Falcons lead to two points multiple times, but the Knights fell just short as Messiah won the match to advance to the MAC Championship.
