READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University ice hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with Alvernia on Tuesday night in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play. The Knights prevailed in the shootout to take the extra point in conference play.
The Knights took five of the six possible points in their two-game series with Alvernia.
Goaltender
Ryan Burgess made a career-high 53 saves in the game. He made 21 saves in the third period to force overtime.
Mike Kocsis scored two goals and
Dylan Florit and
Jared Shuter added a score apiece. Kocsis' two goals gives him 13 on the year and four in his last two games.
Florit added an assist and
Drew Iannucci dished out two helpers to join Kocsis for the team-lead in points in the tie.
ARCADIA 4, ALVERNIA 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kocsis opened the scoring on the power play in the first period to give the Knights an early lead. Florit doubled the Knights lead later in the opening frame with an even strength goal. Alvernia got a goal back with less than three minutes left in the first period to cut its deficit to 2-1.
- Kocsis scored his second of the game three and a half minutes into the middle period to extend Arcadia's lead back to two. Shuter scored less than three minutes later to give the Knights a 4-1 lead. Alvernia scored a minute later to get within two at 4-2.
- Alvernia scored two goals in the third period to send the game to overtime.
- After a scoreless overtime period, Aaron Hamel and Bryce Battaglia beat the Alvernia goaltender in the shootout and Burgess made three saves to give the Knights the extra conference point.
