INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Arcadia University track and field senior
Myles Sams has been accepted into the 2024 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program, which will take place from Jan. 10-14 in Phoenix, Ariz.
40 ethnic minority students from NCAA Division III were chosen who have a strong interest in a career in Division III athletics (coaching and/or administration).
"Getting accepted into the NCAA student immersion program was definitely a great feeling for me," Sams said. "After being coached by good coaches from high school to my prior Arcadia Assistant Coach, Jared Lewis and my current Head Coach,
Kirsten O'Malley, I knew I wanted to be involved in coaching when I eventually hang my spikes up. This conference is definitely a huge opportunity for me. It will put me in front of some people who are experts in the world of collegiate athletics."
"We are so excited for Myles and proud of him for earning this great opportunity," head Cross Country/Track & Field coach
Kirsten O'Malley said. "Myles' drive for success, knowledge in track and field, and love for the sport will undoubtedly make him a great coach at the next level. We're excited to be alongside his journey."
At the 2024 NCAA Convention, the selected students will be exposed to Division III, its members, and the governance process. In addition to the scheduled Division III Convention programming, participants will attend welcome and debrief meetings, participate in a DiSC assessment, and be assigned to a mentor. The goal is to build the pipeline of candidates to ultimately diversify the coaching and/or administrative landscape in Division III.
