GLENSIDE - The Arcadia University Department of Athletics and Recreation has announced the relaunch of its Faculty/Staff Mentor Program for 2024-25. The program, which existed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, is designed to help facilitate greater integration between academics and athletics at the university. 

Mentors are committed individuals that believe that athletics play an integral role in the mission of the university and understand that athletic participation is both meaningful and valuable to the development of a student-athlete. Similar to the mentor relationship for student clubs on campus, faculty-staff mentors voluntarily serve as an additional resource for student-athletes and coaches across campus and help reinforce the ties between the academic and athletic pursuits of student-athletes.

"I am excited to help re-launch the program and serve as a mentor for the women's basketball team," Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) and Assistant Professor of Media and Communications Dr. Chris Mullin explained. "As Arcadia's FAR, I have seen first hand the many ways that academics and athletics can work together to provide a meaningful experience for all of our student athletes at Arcadia."

"We know so many of our faculty and staff are highly invested in our student-athete's experiences on and off the playing fields," said Oliver Moe, Arcadia's Director of Student Success and Leadership. "The revamping of this program gives these individuals another formal opportunity to continue serving as a support resource for our student-athletes. Connections matter, and this program further shows our student-athletes that their athletic endeavors are valued throughout campus and are recognized as an integral component of their educational experience at Arcadia."
