Morris and Poley Record New Career Highs in Women's Lacrosse's Win Over Gwynedd Mercy

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team used a strong ending to the first quarter to propel it to a 20-6 victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Thursday at Jean Lenox West Field.
 
The Knights improved to 4-3 with the win.
 
Sarah Morris scored a career-high six goals in the Arcadia win, topping her previous career best of five. Morganne Dee added four goals for the Knights. Olivia Poley dished out six assists, which was a new career best.
 
In total, the Knights had nine different goal scorers as Tessa O'Donnell, Skylar Acker, Kylla Henry, Gianna DiNofa, Juliane Calalo, Maddie Ruger, and Jordyn Chan all found the back of the net as well.
 
Emily Griffith picked up her fourth win of the season in goal as she made five saves. Taylor Funcheon entered the game in the fourth quarter and made two saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams traded the opening four goals of the first quarter as Morris had two early scores.
  • With the score tied at two, the Knights scored the final five goals of the first quarter to lead 7-2 after the opening 15 minutes of play.
  • The Griffins scored two early goals in the second quarter to get within three goals at 7-4. The Knights then went on another run to close a frame as they scored the next five goals to lead 12-4 after the first half.
  • Arcadia continued to grow its lead in the third quarter as it shutout Gwynedd Mercy in the frame, outscoring the Griffins, 4-0 in the quarter to lead 16-4 heading into the final quarter.
  • The Knights scored four of the six goals in the final quarter as they closed out their 20-6 win.
