Baseball Scores 40 Runs in Sweep of Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The bats were alive for the Arcadia University baseball team, scoring 40 runs in its doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley University in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Sunday.

In game two, Anthony Bruno became the first player in program history to have three multi-homer games in a career, and matched the single-game record for RBI's and runs scored, while Matthew Sot became the 10th player in program history to have five hits in a game.

FOR THE RECORD
-Arcadia improved to 20-10 overall and 10-4 in league games.

-Delaware Valley fell to 10-16 and 2-10, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: ARCADIA 17, DELAWARE VALLEY 8
-Arcadia opened the scoring in the top of the first with three runs on an RBI single from Bruno and a two-run hit by Sot.

-Kevin Wheeler and Tommy Ajjan increased the lead to 5-0 in the second with run-scoring hits.

-The Knights opened up an 8-0 lead in the third as Emilio Pallante, Gabe Diaz, and Matt Donchez all drove home runs.

-Arcadia cruised to the seven inning victory from there.

GAME TWO: ARCADIA 23, DELAWARE VALLEY 8
-Sot opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the first.

-The Aggies took their first lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

-The Knights crossed the plate six times in the top of third as Kevin Wheeler, Sot, Massielo, and Griffith each brought home runs to take a 7-2 lead.

-Arcadia increased its advantage to 9-2 in the fourth on a Donchez home run and a Sot single.

-After Delaware Valley closed the gap to 9-4, Bruno hit his second grand slam of the season in the top of the fifth to open up a 13-4 lead.

-The Knights again cruised to the victory, with Bruno adding on with a three-run homer in the seventh.

-Vinny Versaci notched the win with 3.1 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts.
