COLMAR, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's ice hockey team earned a conference victory at home Friday evening, rallying past Alvernia University for a 4-2 win. The Knights (9-4-2, 7-3-1) fell behind 2-0 in the opening 53 seconds but responded with four unanswered goals over the final two periods to secure the comeback.
Carys Jelley led the way with two goals, while Charlotte Siksik scored the eventual game-winner and Phoebe Roberts added a goal of her own. Grace Matthews, Ava Glab, and Maeve Hourihan each recorded assists, while Abbi Komrofske finished with two helpers. Gabby Meger made the start in net and, after allowing two early goals, settled in to make 18 saves over the final 59 minutes.
Arcadia won the faceoff battle, capturing 33 of 55 draws, with Kianna Saillant and Chloe Makinson each winning 10 faceoffs. Alvernia converted on its lone power-play opportunity, while the Knights were unable to score on their only power-play chance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Arcadia was assessed a two-minute bench minor prior to the opening faceoff, and Alvernia capitalized quickly, scoring 23 seconds into the game on its first shot. Just 31 seconds later, the Golden Wolves struck again on their second shot to take a 2-0 lead.
• The Knights regrouped and applied steady pressure for the remainder of the first period but entered the first intermission trailing by two.
• Arcadia dominated the second period, opening with four early shots before finally breaking through two minutes in. Carys Jelley scored her seventh goal of the season off assists from Grace Matthews and Abbi Komrofske to cut the deficit in half.
• Just over two minutes later, Phoebe Roberts netted her 10th goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2, with assists from Ava Glab and Komrofske.
• The Knights continued to build momentum, and three minutes later, Charlotte Siksik forced a turnover in the neutral zone and scored the eventual game-winning goal, her second of the season.
• Arcadia carried a 3-2 advantage into the third period.
• Less than two minutes into the final frame, Jelley struck again, finishing off an assist from Maeve Hourihan to seal the 4-2 victory.
