COLMAR, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's ice hockey team dropped a home conference contest to Wilkes University on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 at Hatfield Ice Arena. The Knights move to 15-5-2 overall and 13-4-1 in conference play.
Shots were nearly even throughout the contest, with Wilkes holding a narrow 29-26 edge. The Colonials also controlled the faceoff circle, winning 29 of 51 draws, though Kianna Saillant led all players with 13 faceoff wins for Arcadia. In a physical and tightly contested game, the Knights were unable to convert on seven power-play opportunities. Defensively, Arcadia's penalty kill unit held strong, successfully killing four of five Wilkes power plays.
Gabby Meger got the start in net for the Knights and finished with 26 saves while allowing three goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Arcadia came out strong to open the game, generating early pressure and earning two breakaway opportunities, but the Wilkes goalie turned aside both chances.
• After killing off Arcadia's second power play of the opening period, Wilkes countered and broke through midway through the first to take a 1-0 lead.
• Meger was tested again later in the period when Wilkes earned a clean look from the blue line, but the first-year goalie stood tall to keep the deficit at one.
• The Knights headed into the first intermission trailing 1-0.
• Wilkes added two more goals in the second period, including one on the power play, to extend the lead to 3-0.
• Arcadia continued to push offensively in the third period, but the deficit proved too much as Wilkes held on to secure the shutout victory.
