Men's Volleyball Close Regular Season at No. 5 Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's volleyball team wrapped up its regular season Wednesday evening with a straight-set loss to No. 5 Messiah University. The Knights (9–14, 3–5 MAC) fell by scores of 25–18, 25–23, and 25–21.

Tucker Curtis led Arcadia with eight kills, while Josh Clendening and Reece Dodd added six apiece. Riley Kodidek dished out 23 assists and added a service ace, while Clendening also recorded an ace. At the net, Clendening, Dodd, and Luka Erickson each totaled three blocks. Cameron Birch contributed five assists and led the team with five digs. As a team, the Knights hit .193, while the Falcons posted a .361 hitting percentage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE: Arcadia 18 – Messiah 25

• Clendening opened the match with a kill to give Arcadia an early lead, and Curtis followed with another to keep the Knights within striking distance at 5–3.

• After a 6–1 run by Messiah, Erickson recorded a kill to stop the momentum. Arcadia capitalized on Falcon errors, along with a kill from Erickson and an ace from Kodidek, to narrow the deficit to 17–12.

• Despite additional kills from Clendening, Curtis, and Kodidek, Messiah closed out the set, 25–18.

SET TWO: Arcadia 23 – Messiah 25

• Clendening opened the set with back-to-back kills to even the score at 2–2. Dodd and Kodidek followed with kills to keep the set tied at 4–4.

• The teams traded points until Clendening gave Arcadia a 10–9 lead. Dodd later restored the advantage at 13–12, and kills from Birch and Erickson extended the lead to 15–13.

• Messiah responded with a 7–0 run to take a 20–15 lead. The Knights answered with a 6–2 run, highlighted by block assists from Erickson and Clendening, to pull within one.

• Dodd recorded two late kills, but the Falcons held on to take the set, 25–23.

SET THREE: Arcadia 21 – Messiah 25

• Arcadia jumped out to a 5–1 lead behind two kills from Curtis, a service ace from Clendening, and a kill from Dodd.

• Birch stopped a Messiah run with a kill, but the Falcons responded with a 6–1 stretch to take control.

• The Knights remained competitive as the teams exchanged points, with contributions from Birch, Curtis, and Erickson, along with a solo block from Dodd and additional block assists from Clendening and Erickson.

• Late blocks from Birch, Curtis, and Erickson, along with a block assist from Dodd and Kodidek, were not enough as Messiah secured the set, 25–21, and the match.
