Women's Lacrosse Secures Statement Conference Win Over Misericordia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team earned a 12-9 victory over Misericordia on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Freedom action, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Cougars. The Knights improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Arcadia received a balanced offensive effort, led by four goals from Jaylee Killgore and three from Avery Ditze. Mackenzie Clark and Jordyn Chan each added two goals, while Ella Longacre contributed one in the win.

The Knights held advantages in shots (29-24) and shots on goal (22-13), while also winning the draw control battle, 13-11. Arcadia went 18-for-28 on clears and limited the Cougars to 15-for-25. Misericordia held a slight edge in ground balls, 31-29. Nikki McMenamin led all players with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers, while Clark recorded a game-high six draw controls. In goal, Taylor Funcheon made seven saves to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Arcadia controlled the opening draw and quickly transitioned to offense, as Ella Longacre found Avery Ditze for her 30th goal of the season to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The goal stood as the only score of the first quarter.
  • Misericordia answered off the opening draw of the second quarter, but Jaylee Killgore responded with a goal off an assist from Mackenzie Clark to regain a 2-1 lead.
  • The Cougars scored back-to-back goals to take the lead, but Killgore halted the run with two consecutive goals. Claudia Grello caused a turnover to spark one, and Longacre assisted on the other to put Arcadia back in front.
  • Misericordia added two more goals before Longacre converted a man-up opportunity off an assist from Meghan Graham. The teams entered halftime tied at 5-5.
  • Ditze opened the second half by capitalizing on a rebound off Longacre's saved shot, giving the Knights a 6-5 lead.
  • After the Cougars tied the game again, Ditze scored her third goal of the game following a draw control win by Jordyn Chan to make it 7-6.
  • On the ensuing draw, Clark secured possession and pushed downfield, scoring her 24th goal of the season to extend the lead to 8-6.
  • Misericordia answered late in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 8-7 heading into the fourth.
  • The Cougars tied the game early in the fourth, but Chan responded with her 17th goal of the season to give Arcadia a 9-8 lead.
  • Clark extended the advantage with an underhand finish as the shot clock wound down, scoring her 25th goal of the year to make it 10-8.
  • Misericordia pulled within one once more, but Killgore added her fourth goal of the game off an assist from Longacre.
  • Chan capped the scoring with her second goal, securing the 12-9 victory for the Knights.
