Second Half Surge Powers Men’s Soccer Past Saint Francis

GLENSIDE, Pa. — After a scoreless first half, the Arcadia University men's soccer team erupted for four goals in a 13-minute span Thursday night, defeating Saint Francis University, 4-0, at Jean Lenox West Field.

Logan Watkins, Brian Sharkey, Elijah Kaba, and Daniel Altman each found the back of the net in the second half as the Knights pulled away from the Red Wolves. With the victory, Arcadia improves to 2-2-2 on the season, while Saint Francis falls to 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arcadia controlled the opening half, generating the first 13 shots of the match and outshooting Saint Francis, 13-3.
  • The Knights nearly broke through in the 20th minute when a dangerous corner kick found the feet of Scott Jordan. Jordan's attempt beat the goalkeeper but struck the left post, keeping the match scoreless.
  • Arcadia continued to pressure early in the second half. A foul just outside the box in the 51st minute gave the Knights a set-piece opportunity, but Brayden Perry's attempt was blocked by the Saint Francis defense.
  • The Knights finally broke through in the 63rd minute. After a corner kick was deflected into the box, Matthew Grier redirected the ball toward the head of Logan Watkins, who finished the chance to give Arcadia a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Watkins' first of the season.
  • Just two minutes later, Arcadia doubled its advantage. Perry delivered a perfectly placed corner kick into the box, where Brian Sharkey rose above the defense and headed the ball into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season, making it 2-0.
  • The Knights added a third goal in the 70th minute. After the Arcadia defense forced a loose ball in the middle of the field, Daniel Altman found a wide-open Elijah Kaba, who calmly finished the chance to push the lead to 3-0. The goal was Kaba's second of the season.
  • Arcadia capped the scoring shortly after with its fourth goal of the night. A takeaway in the offensive zone created another opportunity, and Altman found the back of the net for his first career goal to make it 4-0.
