Men’s Soccer Earns Scoreless Draw at Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team battled Cairn University to a 0-0 draw on the road Friday evening. The Knights (1-0-1) outshot the Highlanders, 7-6, including a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal, and also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks but were unable to find the back of the net. Sam Kessinger made the start in goal for the Knights and recorded one save while posting his second consecutive clean sheet to begin the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Knights earned the first corner kick of the game in the 9th minute of the opening half but were unable to generate a shot. Braiden Sottile recorded Arcadia's first scoring opportunity when his shot was saved in the 16th minute.
  • Arcadia managed one more shot in the opening half, with Devin Schmitt's attempt sailing wide left. The Knights also earned another corner but were unable to capitalize.
  • The Knights' defense held Cairn to four shots and four corner kicks in the first half, with none of the Highlanders' attempts finding their way to Kessinger in goal.
  • Schmitt fired another shot early in the second half, but his attempt was off target. After the Knights were unable to convert on their first corner of the half, Cairn created its first opportunity of the second half, but Kessinger made his lone save of the game to keep the match scoreless.

  • Arcadia created a late scoring opportunity when Juan Pozo put a shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the Cairn goalkeeper made the save.
