BaseballOctober 7-The Arcadia University Baseball team gave back to the local community on Sunday by hosting a free two hour baseball clinic. The clinic featured the AU coaching staff and players taking the participants through warm-ups, throwing progression, position specific defensive work, pitching and finally taking batting practice at Erny Field. The clinic attracted 21 aspiring baseball players ages 9-14.
February 9-On Sunday, February 9th, members of the Arcadia University baseball team held a charity baseball clinic for local youth baseball players. The event was organized by Arcadia senior pitchers Jordan Hoffermanand Robert Worrellas part of their senior graduation project. The clinic featured members of the AU coaching staff and players taking the participants through a series of position specific instruction, where each participant had the opportunity to experience playing at each position. In total, the event raised over $1,000, all of which will be donated to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as part of Arcadia University's Cancer Awareness Game on Saturday, March 29th.March 29 -The Arcadia University baseball team raised $3,415 for the Vs. Cancer Foundation, which will direct half of the proceeds to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and half towards cancer research.Vs. Cancer founder Chase Jones, who himself is a cancer survivor, was on hand to accept the baseball team's donation Saturday, where 15 members of the baseball team shaved their heads as part of the fundraising effort. Over $1,000 of that total was raised during a baseball clinic held in February that was organized by seniorsJordan Hofferman(Elkins Park, Pa.) andRobert Worrell(West Chester, Pa.) as part of their senior graduation project. Storyl DonateField Hockey/Women's LacrosseAugust 23- The Arcadia Field Hockey team participated in the "Philles Red Goes Green" program which consists of volunteers from local schools, volunteer organizations and environmental groups, who help with the recycling efforts by collecting recyclable plastic and aluminum bottles during the Phillies home games.Holiday Mail for Heroes -Holiday Mail for Heroes is a Red Cross sponsored program, that collects holiday cards to be sent toveterans, military families, and active duty service membersat hospitals.The Red Cross slogan for this program is "Supporting Our Military by Giving Something that Means Something."This was the third year the two teams have participated in this community service initiative.Support the Troops fundraiser - The Arcadia Unioversity field hockey and women's lacrosse teams sold a specially designed t-shirt to raise money that was donated to the Fisher House Foundation.
Aid for Friends -The Arcadia University field hockey and women's lacrosse teams prepared 100 meals forAid for Friends, a not-for-profit organization serving needy, isolated shut-ins, primarily the frail elderly, in the five county greater Philadelphia Region with free, daily home-cooked meals, delivered weekly by volunteer visitors, and also provides shut-ins with free outreach services. The goal is to help homebound "client/friends" maintain their cherished independence by supporting their determination to remain in their own homes for as long as possible and to enhance their quality of life.Women's SoccerSeptember 19- The Arcadia Women's Soccer team hosted the U8 girls Cheltenham soccer team at their home game against Immaculata. The Knights escorted the youth team out during pregame announcements.September 22- The Arcadia Women's Soccer team hosted a one-hour free skills clinic for Cheltenham Soccer Club's U-9, U-10, U-11 and U-12 girls soccer teams at Easton Field, which had nearly 60 girls in attendance.
October 22 & 25Â - The Arcadia Women's Soccer team will be hosting a few local youth soccer coaches at their training sessions for free. It is a unique approach to a more hands on soccer coaching clinic. The coaches can observe and also ask questions during the session regarding our technical & tactical approach to our training. This is another outreach to help the youth coaches make a positive and productive influence on the kids in their youth soccer club.
Women's Basketball
September 28Â -The Arcadia Women's Basketball team participated in the 3rd annual "Run for the House" 5K at Ridley Creek State Park in Newtown Square. The team donated over $300 towards the run that benefited the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. The players raised money by selling "Knight Pride" t-shirts to family, friends and peers. The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for families of children with life threatening illnesses receiving care at local Philadelphia hospitals.
February 8 -OnSaturday, February 8, the Arcadia University women's basketball team hosted its third annual "Day for David" against Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah College.All funds raised that day were donated to the St. Baldrick's Pediatric Cancer Foundationin honor of a very brave 10 year old boy, David Heard, who lost his battle with Neuroblastoma on February 10, 2011.
Men's Basketball
All Year - The Arcadia Men's Basketball team visitsJohn McCloskey Middle School 8 times a month for the entire 2013-2014 year. The Knights organize pick-up basketball games with the school kids during lunch time as well as mentor their 6th and 7th grade students.
October, 27Â - The Arcadia University Men's Basketball Team raised close to $700 and participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes sponsored by the JDRF (formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
March 14-19 - The Arcadia University men's basketball team collected over 70 pairs of gently used sneakers to donate to "It's from the Sole" that were then donated to the homeless in Philadelphia. Members of the team also assisted with distributing sneakers to the homeless following the collection drive. Story
Student-Athlete Advisory Commitee (SAAC)
September 22- The Arcadia University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) kicked off the 2013-2014 year by volunteering their Sunday afternoon to help out Depaul USA, a transitional house for the homeless in Philadelphia that provides people experiencing homelessness with purpose and hope for a positive future. Depaul USA hosted their annual "Hoops for Homes" 3 v 3 charity basketball tournament at LaSalle University's Hayman Center. SAAC members offered their services by officiating, scorekeeping, collecting money for a 50/50 raffle, and were in charge of halftime entertainment games.
February 14 -Every February 14th, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones. On this Valentine's Day, the Arcadia University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members were the Cupids of the Phoebe Wyncote Nursing Home,going room-to-room and hand carnations to the residents of the home. Story
March 22 -More than 60 Montgomery County Rotary Special Athletes (MCRSA) joined representatives of Arcadia Special Athletes Association (ASAA) for a day of soccer, volleyball, swimming and relay races on March 22 for the annualSportsfest. April 7 -A total of 100 Arcadia University student-athletes took part in a campus cleanup effort on Monday, April 7 as a part of the NCAA Division III Week, which runs from April 7-13.The campus cleanup was organized by Arcadia's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and involved participants from the men's basketball, field hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, softball, women's swimming, and women's tennis teams. Story l Photo Gallery
