Omar Wells '99

Omar Wells ’99 finished his 13th season on the sidelines as an assistant coach for the Arcadia Knights Men’s Basketball program in 2019-20. A Beaver College (now Arcadia University) alum, Wells first joined the Knights coaching staff in 2007. A four-year letter winner from 1995-1999, Wells played for the Knights under Hall of Fame Head Coach Mike Holland.

Wells has served as an assistant under three different Arcadia head coaches. He was a member of the program's first conference championship and first NCAA appearance during the 2018-19 season. The Knights won a program-best 23 games that year. Arcadia went 16-11 overall and appeared in their second-straight MAC Commonwealth Championship in 2019-20. 

Prior to joining the staff at his alma mater, Wells served as a Head Coach for the Gillespie Beacon AAU Basketball Program from 2004-2007. Wells enjoyed much success during his tenure with the Beacon’s, highlighted by consecutive undefeated championship seasons in the Sonny Hill Community Involvement League High School Division in the summers of 2006 and 2007.

Upon graduation from Beaver College in 1999, Wells went on to become the Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at his alma mater, Lutheran High School of Philadelphia. Wells served in this capacity from 1999-2004. While at Lutheran, Wells guided the boy’s basketball program to four 20 win seasons and the 2002 Independent Schools City Title.

A Philadelphia native, Wells attended Lutheran High School of Philadelphia. Wells graduated in 1995 as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,740 career points.  Wells currently resides in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia with his wife and three daughters. Wells graduated from Beaver College in 1999 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication.
