Meredith Mayes '10 DPT

Meredith Mayes is entering her seventh season as assistant softball coach.  She began her coaching career in 2008 as a grad assistant to Coach Detra while a student of Arcadia’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.  Initially responsible for working with the pitching staff, Mayes has been given more responsibility in developing a productive offensive lineup.

Mayes received her Bachelor of Science degree from Albright College before coming to Arcadia and was an integral part of the Albright softball program.  She played all four years at Albright in both the shortstop position and as a pitcher.  She was a member of the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team three of her four collegiate years and the All-MAC Commonwealth Second Team her sophomore year. Mayes graduated as the NCAA Woman of the Year for Albright and also achieved the Senior Woman’s Class Athlete title at graduation.

Upon graduation, Mayes spent time in Europe training and playing softball as a member of the Great Britain National Softball team vying for a bid in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  As a relief pitcher, Mayes had the opportunity to pitch against powerhouse rosters from Italy, Greece, Russia and the Netherlands.  Although Great Britain came up short in clinching an Olympic bid, Mayes believes the opportunity has given her a larger and more complete perspective of the game of softball, which she intends to share with her team.

Before college, Mayes was a three-letter athlete in High School playing Tennis, Basketball and Softball. She is employed as a Doctor of Physical Therapy at Excel Physical Therapy and Fitness in Jenkintown, as well as an adjunct professor in the biology and physical therapy departments at Arcadia. In 2011, Meredith also received her certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the NSCA.
