Aleesha Powell joined the Knights’ coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2021 season.

Powell brings a wealth of playing experience and knowledge to the Knights’ program as a former Division I student-athlete. The Philadelphia native played three seasons for Iona College where she was named to the MAAC All-Rookie team in 2012 and followed that up by leading the Gaels to the regular season conference title before earning Second-team All-MAAC honors in 2014.

Powell capped her collegiate playing career at Division I Seton Hall for the 2015-16 season where she led the Pirates to the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and a berth into the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament. She played in all 32 of the Pirates’ games that season and averaged 14.2 points per game - good for second on the team and among the top-10 in the BIG EAST - while setting the program’s single-season record for three-point field goal percentage (.432), a mark that currently ranks third among all-time leaders.

Following her playing career, Powell remained at Seton Hall as a Special Assistant to the Athletics Senior Staff, assisting with compliance-related matters within the department.

Additionally, Powell spent two seasons with the WNBA’s New York Liberty as a Coordinator of Basketball Operations, assisting with game film, travel arrangements, budget reporting, and on-court individual workouts. The Liberty claimed Eastern Conference regular season titles in both years Powell was on staff and advanced to the second round of the WNBA Playoffs.

Powell earned her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Seton Hall in May 2016 and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
