Arcadia Searched and Found Victory in a Single OT Game 1-0

GLENSIDE, PA:  (Oct. 12, 2010) - Arcadia University first year Dean Search (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) scored the first game winner of his career in the 97th minute of today's 1-0 victory over visiting Widener University in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer play.  The win is a good bounce back for Arcadia after  the heartbreaking loss 1-0 to Messiah on Saturday.  The Knights advance their record to 7-6 overall and 2-1 within the Commonwealth Conference.  Widener drops to 4-8-2 overall and 0-2-1 in Conference.

Strong defense was the story throughout the regulation for both teams and especially the Knights as they held Widener to only 5 shots.   The Arcadia defense did not allow much to get through to the net but when one did Arcadia first year keeper Ryan Lantzy (Pheonixville, PA/Pheonixville) was sure to turn it away.  Widener keeper Ryan Frantz stopped all 3 Knight shots on goal in the regulation as the game remained scoreless, forcing an extra session.

97 minutes in, Ryan Frantz, was looking to obtain his first shut-out of the season but the Knights had a different idea in mind.  Senior Jeff McDonald (Philadelphia, Pa, Father Judge) sent a shot on goal past a diving Frantz that hit the post.  Opportunity called and Dean Search found the rebound and the back of the net for a memorable game-winner.  Unfortunately for Frantz and the Pride, the shutout would be credited to Lantzy and his Knights as Arcadia walks away with another 1-0 conference victory.

The stats illustrate the Knights were the aggressor throughout the entire game.  Arcadia doubled Widener in shots 14-7 while attaining a 4-1 edge in corner chances.  Lantzy, needing to stop only one shot on goal from the Pride, improves to 6-5 overall and earns his fourth shutout of the season.

Arcadia returns to action this Saturday at Elizabethtown College, as conference play continues at 4:30 PM in Elizabethtown, Pa.
