MADISON, NJ: (Sept. 4, 2010) The FDU-Florham Red Devils handed Arcadia University men's soccer a 2-1 set back this afternoon in Madison, NJ. The loss evens the Knight's early season record at 1-1 while the win for FDU (1-1) avenges a 2-0 loss to the Knights back in 2008. Arcadia returns to play on Wednesday, traveling to Rosemont College for a 3:30 pm kick off.
The home team took the early advantage at the 19:10 minute mark of the first half as FDU's Josef Hess scored unassisted on first year Arcadia keeper Ryan Lantzy (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville). Like they did on Wednesday at Rutgers-Camden, the Knights responded to a 1-0 deficit when first year Nick Morris (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) found former high school teammate and returning all conference senior Jeff McDonald (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) for the equalizer at 31:35. It was McDonald's first goal of the season. The Knights held the first half advantage in shots 7-4 and corner opportunities 5-4.
A little over ten minutes into the second half, the Red Devils were awarded a penalty kick as a result of a Knight's penalty. The kick was taken by Josh Corpuz and converted into a score to give FDU the 2-1 advantage at 56:07. FDU's 2-1 lead would stand as the final score as Tim Kirk made 9 stops for his first win of the season. For the Knights, Lantzy made 4 stops while returning all conference sophomore Zach Todd (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Twp.) and Morris led the Knights with 4 shots on goal apiece.
Arcadia finished the game with the advantage in shots 19-10 and 9-4 in corner opportunities, none of which they were able to convert into scores.
