Knights fall to E'town 5-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.:  Arcadia University Field Hockey traveled to Elizabethtown College this morning looking for their first Commonwealth Conference win of the season, falling short by a 5-1 margin.  Junior Marilyn Beatty (Chalfont, PA/North Penn) erased a two goal deficit for the Knights when she scored the team's lone goal in the 40th minute.

The win was the fifth straight for the Blue Jays who improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the league.  Arcadia drops to 2-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.

After both squads battled over the opening 17 minutes, the hosts opened up a 2-0 spread by the 25 minute mark on goals by Kendra Hudson and Erin Meanix.  The score remained 2-0 E'town at the half.

Awarded a corner opportunity in the 39th minute, Arcadia sophomore Ashley Ditchey (Nicholson, PA/Lackawanna Trail) blasted a shot from the top of the circle, that Beatty redirected past E'town keeper Lindsey Hamp into the left side of the cage for the Knights first and only score of the game.  The goal was Beatty's fifth of the season.  The junior leads the team with 9 pts.

The Blue Jays would regain their two goal advantage in the 43rd minute with Meanix scoring her second of the game off a scrum in front of Knight's starting keeper Sarah Baumgardner (Hatboro, PA/Upper Moreland). Baumgardner finished with 3 saves through the first 60 minutes before being relieved by first year Jess Mahoney (North Wildwood, NJ/Cape May Tech) for the final ten. E'town would then take a 4-1 lead with Hudson's second goal of the game before Taylor Alwine capped the Blue Jays scoring in the 66th minute to seal the 5-1 final.

Sophomore Pam Schweitzer (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) made 2 defensive saves for Arcadia with first year Katie Dull (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) making one.

Arcadia looks to bounce back from today's loss when they host league opponent Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.
