Early leads fade against Albright

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Facing off against a much improved Arcadia University team than a season ago, the defending Men's & Women's Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming champions Albright College battled back to come out on top of the men's and women's events Saturday afternoon at Arcadia's Lenox Pool.  The Lions improve to 4-1 overall respectively.  Arcadia's women drop to 1-3 overall while the men stand even at 2-2.

The men opened up with a .93 second win in the 200 Medley Relay.  Juniors Ryan Mahoney, Dillion Grady and first year's Alex Ganguzza and David Battistelli led the way in 1:48.01.  Junior Oliver McCormick kept the team in front blowing away the Lions's second place finisher in the 1000 Freestyle (10:54.79).  With the Knights ahead 21-15, Albright responded to win first in the next four events and first in the final seven, interrupted by a gold for the Knights in the 50 Free by Battistelli (24.14).  The Knights lost the meet 177-77.

Arcadia's women raced out to a 41-33 lead after dropping the opening relay.  Junior Arielle Fry won the 1000 Free by 5 seconds (12:08.12), first year Whitney Boeckel earned gold in the 200 Free (2:06.10) followed by sophomore Tara Nuzzo with a 4 second victory in the 100 Backstroke (1:07.38).  Albright took the next two to pull in front where they remained, despite Nuzzo sprinting to her way to a second gold in the 50 Free (26.07) and a final individual gold for Boeckel in the 200 Backstroke, a 5 second win (2:15.85).  Arcadia capped the afternoon by winning the 200 Free Relay (1:48.27) with first year Lauren Miller, Boeckel, junior Lindsay Mills and Nuzzo. The Knights lost by a score of 154-106.

The Knights travel to Goucher College on Saturday, Nov. 19 for a 1 p.m. meet.
