Swimmers defeat Cabrini at Bryn Mawr Dual

BRYN MAWR, Pa.:  Arcadia University Men's & Women's Swimming cruised past Cabrini College Wednesday night to remain at .500 on the season at a double-dual meet hosted by Bryn Mawr College.

Arcadia's women (4-4 overall) who topped the Caveliers 128-64, nearly swept the evening, losing to the host Owls by a mere 8 point differential, 104-94.  Arcadia's men (3-3-1 overall) won handily over the Caveliers 103-45.

With eight first place finishes against Cabrini, Arcadia's men defeated the Caveliers for the first time since the 2006-07 season.  The squad opened with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay (1:50.85) featuring Ryan Mahoney, Dillon Grady, Alex Ganguzza and David Battistelli out-lasting the Cavs by 2 seconds.  Oliver McCormick (11:06.96) and Max Meneses (14:15.22) placed one-two uncontested in the 1000 Freestyle with McCormick later going on to win the 500 Freestyle by 33 seconds (5:19.78).  Battistelli added two individual golds, the first in the 200 Freestyle (1:58.91), the second in the 100 Free (53.05).  Ganguzza also chipped in with a pair of top-times in the 200 IM (2:09.12) and finished off a 15-second lead in the 200 Backstroke (2:10.86).  Rounding out the Knights top performers was Grady, sprinting to a .51 win in the 50 Freestyle.

Last season, Arcadia's women pulled off a one point victory over Cabrini in Bryn Mawr's Schwartz Gymnasium Pool (99-98) but this year had no problem against the Cavs, winning by 64 points.  The victory was the third straight for the Knights over Cabrini dating back to the 2009 season.

Leading the charge was Whitney Boeckel with two top individual times and assisting in the final 200 Free Relay that went down to the wire.  Boeckel swam the 200 Free in 2:08.53 and the 500 Free in 5:40.29 and was the third leg of the winning relay team. The final leg of that team was swum by Tara Nuzzo who touched out just .01 second before Bryn Mawr's Judy Yueng. The relay team conisted of Laura Miller, Tess Geib, Boeckel and Nuzzo.   Earlier in the meet, Nuzzo posted an individual victory in the 50 Free (25.77).  Arielle Fry went the distance in the 100 Freestyle, cruising to a 16 second victory (11:43.56) to begin the women's individual events and later placed second in the 500 Free (5:48.46) behind Boeckel.

Arcadia is off to arguably their best start in many seasons and will look to continue the pace with one final meet to round out the month of December at Ocean County College (NJ) on 12/10. The Knights returns to Middle Atlantic Conference action on January 14, 2012 competing against Messiah and King's in Grantham, Pa.
