Déjà vu: Knights fall by one to Aggies 66-65

Box Score

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.: Thursday night's non-league men's basketball game came down to the wire with possession in favor of the Knights with 4.4 seconds remaining and down 66-65 to the Aggies of Delaware Valley College yet Arcadia was unable to muster up a shot up as time expired.

The 1-point loss leaves an all too familiar bitter taste in the Knights' mouths as it was just 1 year and 1 day ago the same Aggies defeated Arcadia 74-73 at the Kuch Center.

The 66-65 loss drops the Knights to 4-3 on the season as they prepare to face off against Penn State Abington this Saturday.

After a 12 point, 6 rebound first half from Delaware Valley forward, Jeremy Beckett, the Aggies went into the locker room up 34-30.  Nevertheless, the second half looked like it was going to be a horse of a different color as senior guard Jason Thompson hit from deep to open the half.  With the score 34-33, the momentum seemed to be in Arcadia's favor, but, the Aggies had something else in store as they went on a 16-6 run spanning 7 minutes, pushing the lead out to 12 points, 50-39, with 12 minutes left.

Despite the 12 point deficit, the Knights once again showed no quit as they followed with their own 15-3 run to take the lead 54-53 with 7 minutes remaining.  The final 7 minutes were similar to that of a back and forth tennis volley including 3 lead changes and 2 ties.  The Knights held a 1 point lead 62-61 until Del-Val sophomore Nathan Bollinger attacked the lane off of the break hitting a layup as he got fouled.  Bollinger made sure to convert the foul shot giving the Aggies the 64-62 lead with 49 seconds on the clock.

After a Daulton Derr slam for the Aggies, Arcadia first year Travis Saltus hit a free throw and junior Khalief Trawick a layup and the score sat at 66-65 Delaware Valley with 9 seconds left.  The Knights fouled Bollinger again who went to the line but missed the front-end of the one-and-one giving Arcadia one more chance for the win with 4.4 seconds.  After a timeout, Delaware Valley locked in on defense not even allowing the Knights a shot attempt at the rim as they successfully defended their home gym with a hard fought 66-65 victory.

The Aggies (2-5 overall) were led by Beckett with a game-high 19 points and 7 rebounds and Jay Donovan with 14 points and 7 rebounds.  While Arcadia was led by Saltus who had a 14 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and only 1 turnover.

For the game the Knights out-rebounded the Aggies 38-37 but shot only 40% from the field, 18% from 3, and 62.5% from the line while Del-Val shot 47.3% from the field, 33.3% from 3, and only 57.1% from the line.

Due to a facility issue at nearby Penn State-Abington, Saturday's game against the Lions will be played at the Kuch Center at 1 p.m. with Arcadia as the visiting team.
