Mills, Thompson Lead Knights in Loss at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011– The Warriors of Lycoming College (13-8 Overall 3-7 Commonwealth), continued their fight for a possible postseason berth, using four players in double figures en route to a 73-59 victory over Arcadia University Men's basketball team (5-15 Overall 0-10 Commonwealth) this afternoon at Lamade Gym. The win gives the Warriors a sweep of the season series between the two teams, following a Warriors' 79-70 victory at the Kuch Center in January.

The first half featured four lead changes and five ties, as the Knights battled the Warriors for most of the half topping out with a five point lead at the 12:04. Lycoming answered by outscoring the Knights 28-13 the rest of the first half with their lead culminating with a 37-25 advantage with 34 seconds remaining before the half. First-year Aaron Benusis responded with a layup with 11 seconds to go off a Darrell Mills '11 pass. For the half, the Knights shot 39.1 percent but the Warriors connected on 15 of 31 shots, 48.4 percent. The Knights, though, out-rebounded the Warriors for the half by an 18-15 advantage but Lycoming was able to put up seven fast break points compared to just two off the fast break for the Knights.

Lycoming entered the second half on a tremendous offensive assault, outscoring Arcadia 14-4 in the first six minutes and were able to jump out to a 22-point lead, tying their largest lead of the game. The Knights tried to stay with the Warriors and were able to cut the lead to 14 points at several points of the half, but the Warriors were able to hold their double digit lead culminating in the 73-59 victory. Lycoming's success in the half came in the paint as they outscored Arcadia 20-6, and also posted the advantage in second-chance points 8-0. Arcadia's bench, led by junior Colin McCarthy's 10 points and first-year Mike Fitzpatrick's seven points outpaced Lycoming's bench 18-14 for the half.

The Knights had three players in double figures, with both Mills and junior Jason Thompson notching 11 points. McCarthy had his 10 points, as well as five rebounds. Benusis pulled down a team high nine rebounds. Lycoming was led by Ihsaan Davis' game high 17 points and also Jerald Williams' nine assists. Williams's nine assists gave him Lycoming's season record for most assists at 154.

The Knights will look for their first conference win of the year as they return home this Wednesday to battle Albright College. Arcadia was handled a 72-59 loss at Albright's home court in January.  Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
