N. Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tuesday, March 15, 2011-- Arcadia University faced two new opponents on Tuesday in non-conference play in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., upending both to remain undefeated on the season (6-0). The Knights blasted 12 runs in the opening game to hand Prinicipia College a 12-0 loss before allowing Barton College to tag the Knights with their first loss of the season, a 9-0 blanking in the nightcap.
In the 12-0 shutout of Principia, junior
Kelsey Roberts worked her way through with patience and perfection, throwing her first no-hitter of the season, yeilding just two walks while striking out six. Nine of the Knights 12 runs were unearned as the Principia defense struggled to maintain composure in the infield. Leading the way for Arcadia at the dish was sophomore
Marissa Perez batted 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, sophomore
Corrin Showalter went 2-for-3 with two RBI and first-year
Leanda Helms who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a homerun, her second in as many days and second on her career.
In game two, senior
Kelly Reese dished out four strikeouts but didn't get the offense help she needed and took her first loss and the team's first loss of the season against Barton College. Barton out-hit Arcadia 14-2 and jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the second.
The Knights continue play on Wednesday with their final games against Suffolk and Lycoming. On Thursday, the Knights face Principia and Barton in the final day of spring break action.
