ANNVILLE, Pa., Saturday, April 30, 2011-- Despite plating just one run on the day in a pair of losses to host Lebanon Valley in today's Commonwealth regular season finale, the Knights secured a spot in the 2011 Commonwealth Conference Championships, their first post-season bid since the 2009 season. The No. 3 Knights will play No. 2 Messiah on May 6 at host Alvernia University. Today in Annville, the Knights lost 4-1 in the opener and 7-0 in the nightcap.
Lebanon Valley secured the No. 1 seed for the double elimination conference tournament after defeating No. 2 Messiah earlier this season and will play No. 4 Lycoming in the opening round.
Game one starter junior
Kelsey Roberts held the Dutchmen to just six hits and struck out five but took the loss as her team failed to provide run support in order to make a comeback from LVC's four-run first inning. The team did put one run up in the top of the sixth when junior
Lindsey Henchinski hit a one-out double to left center, moved to third on a single, and scored on a throwing error by LVC. Laura Snyder pitched a five-hitter in the victory for the Dutchmen while tossing nine strikeouts.
In game two, LVC starter Val Malizza was a force, allowing just a single hit to the Knight's junior
Marissa Perez while striking out four for her 11th victory of the season. Arcadia's
Jess Wood took the loss through four innings of work allowing five earned runs on eight hits.
More information on the championships is forthcoming on Monday.
