Offense halted at No. 8 Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa.:  Limited in their offensive opportunities this evening, Arcadia University dropped their first game of the early season at No. 8 Swarthmore College, a 3-0 final score in non-conference men's soccer action.

Arcadia, having allowed just 5 opponent shots on goal through their first two games, had the tables turned by a strong Garnet team that out-shot the Knights 17-7.  Swarthmore (3-0 overall) put three of their 7 shots past Arcadia sophomore keeper Ryan Lantzy (Pheonixville, PA/Pheonixville) who took his first loss of the season following a pair of shutout performances last week.  Lantzy finished with 4 saves.

Swarthmore's David D'Annunzio earned the win in net, making the two stops he needed while also registering an assist on the first of two goals from first year Michael Stewart.  Stewart scored in the 40th and 90th minutes.  After a 1-0 Garnet lead at the half, senior David Sterngold scored in the 57th minute to make it 2-0 Swarthmore.

The Knights lone shots on goal came from sophomore Nick Morris (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge), while the team saw three corner opportunities slip by.

Arcadia (2-1 overall) travels this weekend to Carlisle, Pa., for a two-game tournament hosted by Dickinson College.  On Saturday, Arcadia plays Stevenson University at 2:30 p.m., and on Sunday, the Knights play Skidmore College at 1 p.m.
