McCormick, Boeckel lead swimming against Lycoming

GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Oliver McCormick and Whitney Boeckel led their respective teams against visiting Lycoming College in today's Middle Atlantic Conference swim meet at the Lenox Pool with the Knight's men losing 66-159 and the women falling 111-138 to the Warriors. 

McCormick swam the second leg of the second place men's 200 Medley Relay before going 2-0 in his individual distance events.  McCormick finished the 1000 Freestyle (11.00.91) 33 seconds ahead of Lycoming's Myles Bigss, later going on to win the 500 Freestyle (5:21.25). 

Boeckel, swimming the opening leg of the second place women's 200 Medley Relay, powered her way through the water to three individual first place victories.  Boeckel won the 200 Freestyle (2:06.34) and 200 Backstroke (2:15.41), each time finishing one second ahead of Lycoming's Beth Ann Schwoyer.  Boeckel also took top honors in the 500 Freestyle (5:37.36). 

Alex Ganguzza earned the men's only other individual victory, finishing the 200 Butterfly in 2:12.25 while Jenna Neil took the other first place finish for the women's squad, winning the 200 Backstroke in 2:42.85.

Arcadia's men grabbed three second-place finishes this afternoon, one from Ganguzza in the 100 Butterfly (56.35) and two from David Battestelli in the 200 Freestyle (1:56.59) and the 100 Freestyle (52.92).  Ganguzza, Battestelli, McCormick and Sean Robinson helped the team to a silver medal finish in the 200 Medley Relay. 

The women's team racked up five silver medals in individual action.  Catey Nunnari in the 100 Freestyle (12:16.68), Lindsay Mills in the 100 Breaststroke (1:22.00) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:51.05), Tess Geib in the 200 Butterfly (2:37.03) and Alyssa Peterson in the 50 Freestyle (27.96).  Boeckel, Neil, Peterson and Mills placed second in the 200 Medley Relay. 

Today's meet marked the conclusion of the Middle Atlantic Conference regular season.  The Knights swim two more out of conference meets before joining their league opponents for the Middle Atlantic Conference Swimming Championships in mid-February.  Arcadia travels to Marywood University this Saturday, Jan. 28 for a 1 p.m. meet.
