Canfield Scores Twice as Women's Soccer Defeats Alvernia

Box Score Glenside, PA (October 16, 2012) - The Arcadia University Knights (8-4-3, 2-2-1) won their second straight Commonwealth Conference match tonight, defeating the Alvernia University Crusaders (7-6-2, 1-3-1), 3-0 on Easton Field. Kim Canfield scored the Knights goal in the first half and added an insurance tally in the second half, while. Sara Volk-Perez recorded a second half tally. The Knights return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to face Lycoming for a 2:30pm kick-off.

"This was a complete 90-minute effort for us tonight," said head coach Rick Brownell. "Kim (Canfield) and Sara (Volk-Perez) really played well for us and it was a big victory."

The first half was scoreless until late in the session when Canfield found the ball on her foot off a pass from Elizabeth Dixon at 43:18 mark. Arcadia outshot Alvernia 8-2 and had both corners in the first half.

Just over two minutes into the second half the Knights struck again as Volk-Perez headed the ball in off a cross from Canfield for a 2-0 Arcadia lead. Canfield would then add an insurance tally in the final minute beating the goalie on a breakaway for a 3-0 Knight victory. The Knights nded the match with 16 shots, while Alvernia had six. Arcadia also had seven corners to the Crusaders four.

Veronica Willig made three saves to earn her second straight shutout.
