Box Score Glenside, PA (October 2, 2012): An early-evening fog covered the turf on Easton Field on Tuesday night, but the weather was not enough to stop the Arcadia women's soccer team from getting its first conference win of the year, 3-1, over the visiting Widener Pride. Arcadia runs its overall record to 7-3-2 and evens its record in the Commonwealth at 1-1, while Widener falls to 4-5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference.
The Knights opened the scoring just nine minutes into the game on a nifty goal by sophomore midfielder Ana Stratton. The goal is Stratton's third on the year and was assisted by fellow sophomore
Nina Barbieri. This was the lone tally of the first half and gave the Knights the lead heading into the break.
Widener scored the first goal of the second half as sophomore Nichole Foschini found the back of the net with 40 minutes left to play. This letdown seemed to spark the Knights offense as sophomore
Kim Canfield found junior
Sara Volk-Perez for a goal less than five minutes later. This would give the Knights the lead for good. Junior
Fatima Elmedkhar added an insurance goal with 27 minutes left to play, rounding out the scoring on the night.
Both goalkeepers saw a fair amount of action. Sophomore
Veronica Willig had another impressive night in goal for Arcadia, as she allowed just one goal and saved five shots. Widener keeper Vanessa Hejnas also had a solid game, saving nine shots for the Pride.
The Knights travel to Maryland on Saturday for a showdown with new Commonwealth member Stevenson University. That game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
