Box Score Glenside, PA (October 3, 2012): Arcadia men's soccer team earned their first conference win of the year in shutout fashion as they blanked the visiting Widener Pride 2-0. Arcadia improves its overall record to 4-3-2 and evens its record in the Commonwealth at 1-1, while Widener falls to 4-6-1 overall and 1-1 in conference.
After a back and forth start to the game, Arcadia became the aggressor throughout the half accumulating seven shots and three corners to Widener's one shot and one corner. Nevertheless, neither the team was able to put the ball in the net as the game remained scoreless at the half.
The game would stay 0-0 for most of the second half as neither team looked to give any ground. Yet, when opportunity knocked in the form of a penalty kick, senior captain
Zach Todd answered the bell with a goal past Pride keeper Jakub Valner. Todd's first goal of the season came with 21 minutes left in regulation to give Arcadia the 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, sophomore Timothy O'Leary followed in his captain footsteps as he too scored his first goal of the season. O'Leary's goal mirrored that of sportscenter's top ten as the packed Easton Field erupted in amazement. The goal assisted by sophomore Josh Pacana gave the Knights the two goal cushion with 15 minutes remaining.
AU goalkeeper
Ryan Lantzy took care of the rest as the junior secured the victory for AU with his first shutout performance of the year.
The Knights travel to Maryland on Saturday for a showdown with new Commonwealth member Stevenson University. That game is the first of a men's and women's doubleheader. The men's game is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM while the women's game is schedule to kickoff at 4:00PM.
