Softball Splits Home Opener With Eastern

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GLENSIDE, Pa.:  Arcadia University and Eastern University split their annual softball duel Thursday afternoon at Blankley Field with the Knights taking the opener by a 2-0 count and the Eagles winning 4-3 in the nightcap.  Arcadia's record moves to 10-6 overall while the Eagles stand at 9-6 on the season.

After two scoreless innings in the opener, the Knights plated a run in the bottom of the third.  Senior Lindsay Henchinski singled down the left field line and was later brought home by junior Brandee Zablotsky's left field single.

The score remained 1-0 Arcadia until the home half of the sixth.  Sophomore Jess Wood unleashed a double to center, allowing base running duties to sophomore Katie Resh who would be brought in by junior Marissa Perez's triple to center making it a 2-0 Knights advantage that stood as the game one final.

Wood picked up her 5th win of the season, improving to 5-2 with another complete game under her belt, while batting 2-3.  Perez finished 2-2 with the game winning RBI to her credit.

In the nightcap, the game again remained scoreless until the third inning but this time it would be the Eagles to strike first.  Two outs down, the visitors loaded the bases and picked up four scores from just two hits and an Knight's error in the field.

Facing a 4-0 deficit, Arcadia's defense held Eastern scoreless the rest of the way while their offense managed to plate single scores in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Arcadia benefited from an Eastern error to get the tying run on base, but a fielder's choice never allowed the runner to get in scoring position and the Eagles escaped the frame unscathed to force the split in today's non-conference matchup.

Senior Kelsey Roberts was tagged with her second loss of the season (3-2) with four runs allowed from 4 hits and 6 walks while striking out 2.

Junior Corrin Showalter finished game two batting 2-4 with 1 run scored, senior Erin Wojcieszyn 2-4 with 1 run scored while senior Amy Johnson batted 1-1 with an RBI.

Arcadia opens Commonwealth Conference play this Saturday on the road at Elizabethtown College. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
