Women's Tennis Bounces Back With a Bang

GLENSIDE, PA:  After an unsettling 2-7 loss in their spring season opener on Monday, Arcadia University Women's Tennis bounced back with a dominating 7-2 performance over the visiting Penn State Abington Lady Lions on a breezy afternoon on the Weiss Tennis Courts.

After the Knights took two of three out of doubles action, they rolled to wins at No. 2 through No. 6 singles for their first win of the 2011-12 season.

Arcadia's No.1 doubles paring, Megan Gillespie '12 and Dominique Canale '15 had no troubles getting past Abington's Stephanie Moukas/Adela Ulitsky 8-2.   Playing at No. 2, Beth Osipowitz '12 and Kaila Gaughan '15 produced Arcadia's second point in doubles play with an 8-4 victory over Jenny Abraham/Lauren Hetzel.

At No.1 singles, Gillespie faced off against Moukas with the Lady Lion taking the win 6-3, 6-4. It would be Abington's final point of the match though with the Knights handily taking care of the No. 2 through No. 6 ladder slots.

Canale defeated Hetzel 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2, Gaughan posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Abraham at No. 3, Osipowitz cruised past Phillips 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and Jasmine Peake '14 was a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Kimberly Oschester.  Penn State put forth the Knight's toughest challenge of the match at No. 6 singles but Danielle Riggins'14 toughed out a big point over Ulitsky winning 7-5, 6-3.

Arcadia will attempt to ride this momentum into Annville, PA this Saturday when they visit Lebanon Valley College for a 12 Noon start in their Commonwealth Conference season opener.  Saturday's match is a doubleheader with the men's team.
