Arcadia Women's Tennis Gives Valiant Effort at Alvernia

READING, PA (April 18, 2012) - Arcadia University Women's Tennis has fought valiantly over their past five matches, all decided by one point and Wednesday's Commonwealth match at host Alvernia University was no different. After falling down 2-1 after doubles action, Viola Sawyer '15 nearly provided the Knights the win but lost in a third set tie-breaker with the Crusaders winning the match 5-4.

Arcadia's No. 1 Doubles team of Kaila Gaughan '15 and Beth Osipowitz '15 pulled out a big win over Kayla Morgan/Jennifer Petrilla in a lengthened set 9-8 (7-4). Alvernia took wins at No. 2 and No. 3 for a 2-1 lead into Singles play.

The Crusaders took a 6-1, 6-2 win at top singles but the Knights got one back at No. 2 with Gaughan increasing her season record to 8-1 when she defeated Kayla Morgan 6-1, 7-5. Jasmine Peake '14 ran past Alvernia's Jennifer Innamorato 6-2, 6-3 and Latoya Fluker '14 defeated Maygan Henzie 6-1, 6-2 to cap the Knight's singles points.

Arcadia drops to 2-9 and 2-4 in the Commonwealth. Alvernia improves to 7-4 and 2-2 in the league.

The team travels to Messiah College this Saturday for another match in league play.
